Man arrested after following victim from bank to steal cash in Somerset County
RARITAN BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – An Essex County man accused of following a woman from a bank and burglarizing her car in Raritan Borough last year has been arrested, according to police.
On May 23, 2023, police responded to Janssen Pharmaceuticals for a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. The victim reported that the window of her 2017 Kia Sportage had been broken and a tote bag containing $544 in cash was missing, police said.
An investigation revealed that the victim had withdrawn money from a bank in Somerville and was followed to Janssen Pharmaceuticals. After the victim exited her vehicle to go to work, it was burglarized, police said.
Nicholas Florez-Sanchez, 27, of Newark, was identified as a suspect after police obtained surveillance footage from various locations and received assistance from the South Plainfield Police Department, police said.
A warrant was issued for his arrest. Florez-Sanchez was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, and theft, police said.
On November 4, officers took Florez-Sanchez into custody at the Middlesex County Jail, and he was subsequently transported to the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, police said.
