BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County and Bethlehem Township officials recently celebrated the opening of a new outdoor Fitness Court at Heritage Park designed to provide free exercise opportunities for the community.
Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan J. Soloway and County Clerk Mary Melfi joined Bethlehem Township Mayor Paul Muir and Deputy Mayor Judy Nelson for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of the new facility.
“This new Fitness Court is a tremendous addition to Heritage Park and another example of how investments in our local parks can directly enhance the quality of life for Hunterdon County residents,” Soloway said. “The County is proud to support Bethlehem Township and its efforts to provide residents with accessible, high-quality recreational opportunities that encourage healthy and active lifestyles.”
The outdoor Fitness Court was developed by Bethlehem Township, Horizon and the National Fitness Campaign to expand access to exercise opportunities and promote active lifestyles.
Hunterdon County previously awarded Bethlehem Township $70,000 through its municipal parks and recreation grant program for improvements at Heritage Park. The Fitness Court is part of the township’s continuing efforts to expand recreational and wellness opportunities at the park.
The outdoor gym uses body-weight exercises and features seven exercise stations. It is designed for people of varying fitness levels ages 14 and older, with exercises that can be adapted to allow users to work out at their own pace.
Users can also download the free Fitness Court App for guided workouts and coaching resources.
During the ceremony, Muir presented Soloway with a proclamation recognizing and thanking the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners and Horizon for their support of the project.
“Partnerships between the County and our municipalities allow us to make meaningful investments in facilities that residents can enjoy every day,” Soloway added. “We congratulate Mayor Muir, Deputy Mayor Nelson, the Township Committee, and their community partners on bringing this exciting new amenity to Heritage Park.”
Also attending the ceremony were JD Bryden, representing U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. and Assemblyman Erik Peterson, representatives from Horizon and other Bethlehem Township officials and staff.
The Fitness Court is now open for public use at Heritage Park, 17 Vliet Farm Road in the Asbury section of Bethlehem Township.
