Man arrested for DWI after officer finds car with hazards flashing on Route 31 in Hunterdon County
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A 27-year-old Flemington man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a Clinton Township police officer stopped to assist a motorist on Route 31, authorities said Wednesday.
According to police, on Oct. 17, an officer on routine patrol saw a silver Ford with its hazard lights on parked on the shoulder of Route 31 South near Allerton Road. The officer pulled behind the vehicle to offer assistance and spoke with the driver, identified as Brian Garcia-Paredes.
Police said Garcia-Paredes showed signs of impairment, and the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered but “were not performed as directed,” according to the department.
Garcia-Paredes was arrested for driving while intoxicated, and his vehicle was impounded, police said. He was taken to police headquarters for processing, where chemical breath testing indicated his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit.
Garcia-Paredes was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving and was released pending a court appearance.
