
Man charged in connection with fatal wrong-way crash on I-80 in Morris County
ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — A Morris County man has been charged in connection with a fatal wrong-way crash on I-80 in Morris County, according to Morris County First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood.
On February 2, 2025, at around 2:22 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 80 West in Rockaway Township.
The investigation revealed that a Mercedes SUV, driven by Victor Peters, 45, of Parsippany-Troy Hills, was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it struck a 2024 Ford pickup truck, driven by 31-year-old Destinn McKnight of East Stroudsburg, PA, who was traveling west.
McKnight, the driver of the Ford pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the truck.
Peters sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. He was the sole occupant of the Mercedes SUV.
Peters allegeldy exhibited signs of being under the influence at the scene. As a result of the investigation, he has been charged with second-degree reckless vehicular homicide. Peters was also issued various motor vehicle summonses related to the incident.
The next scheduled court appearance will be a pre-indictment conference on a date to be determined by the court before Judge Ralph Amirata, J.S.C.
Members of the New Jersey State Police and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are participating in the investigation.
