Man charged with DWI following head-on crash in Warren County

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County man is facing charges, including driving while intoxicated, following a head-on motor vehicle crash in Hackettstown on Wednesday.

Police responded to the crash at around 4:56 p.m. at the intersection of Bilby Road and Willow Grove Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Ford pickup, driven by an 18-year-old male from Stanhope, NJ, and a Honda Accord, driven by Nicholas R. Abato II, involved in a head-on collision, police said.

While speaking to Abato, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Abato was arrested and found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.34%, police said.

Abato was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and unsafe lane change. He was then released to a family member pending a court appearance.
