Man injured after spare tire on dump truck rolls over him in Morris County
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Wharton man was injured Monday night after a spare tire attached to a dump truck rolled over him as he worked on the vehicle in the Landing section of Roxbury, according to township police.
Police spokeswoman Jennifer Dillard said officers responded around 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 8 to 129 Center Street for a report of a man run over by a dump truck.
A preliminary investigation found that the approximately 49-year-old man had been trying to defrost the truck’s brakes when they released, causing the dump truck to roll backward. As it moved, the victim was positioned underneath a spare tire mounted to the side of the truck, Dillard said.
The spare tire — which sat about 15 inches off the ground — rolled over the man. He was not pinned and was transported to a hospital with injuries. His condition was not immediately available.
