Mansfield Township police launches driver safety program for new drivers and those on the autism spectrum

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – The Mansfield Township Police Department is introducing a new driver safety program aimed at assisting new drivers and those on the autism spectrum.

The program’s primary goal is to create a safe and low-stress environment for participants to experience a mock motor vehicle stop.

During the session, officers will provide essential information on what to do during a motor vehicle stop, including proper conduct, general driver safety, and what steps to take if pulled over or involved in an accident. The program is designed to educate and build confidence in drivers while ensuring they are better prepared for real-life driving situations.

This initiative is offered at no cost to Mansfield Township residents. Participants are welcome to bring a parent, guardian, caretaker, or licensed driving instructor for added support during the mock stop. The sessions will generally take place in the police department parking lot.

To sign up for the program, residents can contact Sergeant Russell at erussell@mansfieldtownship-nj.gov to schedule an appointment.
