Morris County collects 519 Pounds of surrendered medications during first drug take back day of 2025
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Sheriff James M. Gannon, Morris Plains Borough Police Chief Mike Koroski, Morris Township Police Chief Robert Shearer, and Randolph Township Police Chief Will Harzula announced that the first National Prescription Drug Take Back Day of 2025 yielded 519 pounds of surrendered medications across 17 bags.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a semi-annual event coordinated by the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), during which law enforcement agencies at the state, county, and municipal levels collaborate to host collection sites across the nation. The goal is to encourage the public to anonymously dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications. The collected drugs are then properly weighed and disposed of by law enforcement officials.
Morris County residents were able to drop off medications at three designated locations staffed by county law enforcement:
- ShopRite of Greater Morristown (Hanover Township): 132 pounds
- Stop & Shop of Morris Plains: 172 pounds
- ACME of Randolph: 215 pounds
Total: 519 pounds
For comparison, the spring and autumn 2024 National Prescription Drug Take Back Days in Morris County yielded a combined total of 410 pounds of surrendered medications.
