Morris County man charged with drug and weapons offenses after crash, police say

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Denville man is facing several criminal and motor vehicle charges after police said he crashed into a parked vehicle Thursday evening following reports of erratic driving.

Police said they received a call around 6 p.m. on Dec. 4 about a driver traveling erratically eastbound on Route 46 toward Route 53. A short time later, officers were notified that the same vehicle had crashed on Bloomfield Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found that the driver, Stephen Walker, 41, had struck a parked vehicle. Police said Walker was found with illegal narcotics and a handgun before being taken into custody and brought to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.

Walker is accused of possessing illegal drugs, being under the influence of narcotics, and carrying a handgun while using or under the influence of drugs. He is also charged with operating a vehicle while in possession of narcotics.

He was additionally issued several motor vehicle summonses, including driving while intoxicated, DWI on or near school property, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, and causing property damage.

Walker was released pending a future court appearance.
