Morris County man sentenced on drug, money laundering charges

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Morris County man was sentenced on drug and money laundering charges, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.

Paul Agosto, 38, of Wharton borough was sentenced on Dec. 6 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Murray said.

Agosto was sentenced to ten years state prison with a credit for 772 days jail already served in the county jail. He must submit a DNA sample and pay $2,455 in mandatory fees and penalties, Murray said.

Agosto previously pled guilty to second-degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute that cocaine, second-degree conspiring with others to distribute cocaine, and third-degree money laundering, Murray said.

These charges arose from an investigation in 2022 by the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force along with multiple other law enforcement agencies including the United States Postal Service and the Morris County Prosecutors Office, Murray said.

Agosto was represented by Brian J. Neary, Esq. and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Assistant Prosecutor Jerome Neidhardt.
