Morris County to ‘Light It Green’ for Veterans Week Nov. 4–11

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Morris County is inviting residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations to shine green lights from Nov. 4 through Veterans Day on Nov. 11 in honor of the men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution at its Oct. 22 public meeting declaring the week leading up to Veterans Day as Operation Green Light for Veterans Week in Morris County. The initiative is part of a nationwide campaign to honor America’s veterans and raise awareness about local programs available to assist them.

“For generations, Morris County has stood by our veterans and their families. Operation Green Light is one simple but powerful way to show our gratitude — to let our veterans know they are seen, supported and never forgotten,” said Commissioner Director Tayfun Selen.

Operation Green Light for Veterans originated through the National Association of Counties (NACo), which encourages counties across the country to shine green lights as a symbol of appreciation for service members. Green represents hope, renewal, and forward movement — a fitting tribute to the 200,000 service members who transition from military to civilian life each year, many of whom face significant adjustment challenges.

County Buildings to Shine Green

Several Morris County facilities will be illuminated in green throughout Veterans Week, including:

  • The Veterans Services Office, 540 W. Hanover Ave., Morris Township
  • The Law & Public Safety Complex, 500 W. Hanover Ave., Parsippany-Troy Hills
  • The historic Morris County Courthouse, 56 Washington St., Morristown
  • The Morris County Administration & Records Building, 10 Court St., Morristown

  • The Morris County Library, 30 E. Hanover Ave., Whippany
  • The Human Services Complex, 1 Medical Drive, Morris Plains
  • The Morris County 9/11 Memorial, 460 W. Hanover Ave., Parsippany-Troy Hills

How to Participate

Residents can take part by:

  • Lighting a green bulb in a window, porch, lobby, or public area between Nov. 4–11.
  • Sharing photos on social media with the hashtag #OperationGreenLight and tagging @MorrisCountyNJ to join the countywide tribute.

The county’s weeklong illumination serves as both a reminder of veterans’ sacrifices and a show of community-wide support for those who have defended the nation’s freedoms.
