New Jersey launches volunteer Cyber Resilience Corps to bolster statewide defense against cyberattacks

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey officials on Wednesday announced the launch of the New Jersey Civilian Cyber Resilience Corps, a new statewide volunteer initiative aimed at strengthening the state’s ability to prevent, withstand and recover from cyberattacks.

The program, developed by the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell, will enlist experienced cybersecurity and information technology professionals to assist government agencies, critical infrastructure providers and community organizations.

The Cyber Corps was authorized by the New Jersey Domestic Security Preparedness Task Force and will operate under the oversight of NJCCIC. Volunteers will be trained and screened, serving in a non-paid capacity and deployed as needed to help with incident response, vulnerability assessments, cyber training and other resilience-building activities.

“As cyber threats continue to escalate in frequency and sophistication, New Jersey must continue to expand its defensive capabilities,” NJOHSP Director Laurie Doran said. “The Cyber Corps unlocks a new way for cybersecurity professionals to contribute directly to the security and resilience of the communities they live in.”

NJCCIC Director Michael Geraghty said the program will significantly boost statewide response capacity. “Integrating volunteers into the NJCCIC’s operational framework significantly increases the State’s capacity to support local government entities, schools, critical infrastructure providers, and civil society organizations in preventing and responding to cybersecurity incidents,” he said. “This program strengthens our whole-of-state approach to cyber defense and resilience.”

Individuals interested in joining the Cyber Corps or organizations seeking assistance can learn more at cyber.nj.gov, email njccic@cyber.nj.gov, or call 1-833-465-2242. Qualified cybersecurity professionals are encouraged to apply, and eligible public-sector and critical infrastructure entities can request support at no cost.
