New Jersey residents take steps to end lung cancer at LUNG FORCE Walk on Sept. 23

American Lung Association event to fund lifesaving lung cancer research with a fundraising goal of $155,000

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but the American Lung Association is working toward a future free of this disease. In an effort to end lung cancer, the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Walk will take place at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater Township on Saturday, Sept. 23, with a fundraising goal of $155,000.

The LUNG FORCE Walk is a celebratory and welcoming event that provides critical funds for lifesaving lung cancer research, early detection initiatives and awareness.

“Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among people in the U.S., but there is hope. More Americans than ever are surviving lung cancer. The survival rate has increased by nearly 40% in the past decade,” said Erica Masin, Executive Director at the Lung Association in New Jersey. “On Saturday, September 23, hundreds of Bridgewater Township residents and nearby communities are coming together to raise awareness about lung cancer, lighten the burden for people living with lung disease, honor the memory of those we’ve lost and lift up those who need our support.”

The LUNG FORCE Walk is great for friends, family and company teams to come together to support people with lung disease and lung cancer, have fun and get some great exercise.

Joining the LUNG FORCE Walk supports the work of the American Lung Association to defeat lung cancer, improve the air we breathe, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families, and eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.

“This year, we are pleased to recognize Dr. Sarada Gurubhagavatula of Summit Health as this year’s LUNG FORCE Walk New Jersey Medical Honoree for her work in the community with lung cancer. Dr. Gurubhagavatula (fondly known as Dr. G.) is a South Orange resident and has a special interest in lung cancer with experience in treating all types of hematology and oncology patients,” Masin said.
