NJ Transit begins refund process for unused one-way tickets purchased before June 1

NEW JEREY — NJ TRANSIT’s refund process is now under way for any unused one-way tickets that were purchased prior to June 1, 2024.

From now through Dec. 31, customers with unused paper tickets or printed out web tickets can go to any NJ TRANSIT ticket office or ticket window to request a refund on one-way or rail 10-trip tickets purchased prior to June 1.

Customers with unused Mobile App tickets purchased prior to June 1  do not need to take any action and will receive a credit in their mobile app accounts.

All one-way tickets purchased on or after July 1, including rail ten-trip tickets, are now valid for 30 days, including the date of purchase.

How to Request a Refund

Paper Tickets:  Customers should bring unused paper tickets purchased prior to June 1, 2024 to any ticket office or ticket window. Customers will need to provide contact information and should have their receipts with them in order to expedite the refund process. For customers who don’t have their receipt, you will be asked to provide contact information and the last four digits of the credit card used for the purchase to have the money refunded to the credit card. Refunds will take longer to process for those customers who have no receipt or other transaction information. NJ TRANSIT staff will document the number and type of tickets received and forward them to NJ TRANSIT’s Refund Department for verification and processing before issuing the appropriate refund.  Refund processing is expected to take approximately three to four weeks.

Web Tickets: Customers should bring their printed out unused one-way tickets purchased on the web prior to June 1, 2024 to a ticket window or ticket office and follow the above instructions for printed tickets.

Mobile App Tickets:  All unused Mobile App tickets purchased prior to June 1, 2024 that were unused on August 1, 2024 are being automatically converted to a credit in the amount of the unused one-way tickets in the customer’s electronic wallet in the Mobile App.  Customers do not need to take any action to receive this credit.
