One dead in Morris County house fire, authorities say

PEQUANNOCK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — One person was killed early Saturday in a house fire on Lyman Avenue in Pequannock Township, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded around 2 a.m. to reports of a working structure fire, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Two residents were able to escape the home. One was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. A third occupant, a 55-year-old resident, was unaccounted for and believed to be inside the house.

After the fire was brought under control, firefighters entered the residence and found the missing individual dead in one of the bedrooms, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson/Environmental Crimes and Major Crimes units, along with the Pequannock Police Department.
