Phillipsburg police warn residents after reports of vehicle burglaries
PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — Phillipsburg police are warning residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables following numerous reports of vehicle burglaries in the area and in neighboring Pohatcong Township.
Police said many vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity, with unlocked doors, visible valuables and keys left inside vehicles making it easier for thieves to target motorists.
Residents are urged to lock vehicle doors, remove valuables from plain view, take keys and key fobs with them, avoid leaving garage door openers visible and park in well-lit areas when possible.
Police also asked residents to immediately report suspicious activity, including people walking through driveways, looking into vehicles, pulling on door handles or vehicles slowly circling neighborhoods late at night.
Residents should not wait until morning to report suspicious activity, police said.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to contact the Phillipsburg Police Department at 908-835-2002.
