Police: Fallen power line sparks brush fire in Washington Township, Morris County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A fallen power line sparked a large brush fire in Washington Township on Friday night, according to police.

The fire broke out along West Valley Brook Road, police said.

The swift and coordinated efforts of local firefighters, along with mutual aid from neighboring departments, helped bring the blaze under control by 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

As the weather begins to cool, officials are reminding residents that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has issued a total fire ban statewide due to dangerously dry conditions. The ban applies to all private and public properties and includes fire pits, campfires, and any type of open burning.
