Police ID driver killed after striking tree in Morris County

MORRIS PLAINS BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – Police have released the name of the man killed when the car he was driving struck a tree in Morris Plains Borough Tuesday Morning.

Morris Plains Police Department Chief Michael Koroski said 65-year-old John McTernan of Morris Plains Borough was traveling south on Littleton Road (Route 202) at around 10:00 a.m. when he struck a tree in the area of Totten Way.

No other vehicles were involved, Koroski said.

McTernan, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Morristown Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Koroski said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Koroski said.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris Plains Fire Department, Morris Plains Department of Public Works and the Morris County Department of Publics Works assisted at the scene.
