NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Project Self-Sufficiency announced Monday that its next session of the Higher Opportunities for Women (HOW) employment skills training program will begin September 23, offering women a pathway to re-enter or advance in the workforce.
The 16-week program combines intensive computer training with classroom instruction and an on-the-job externship. Classes will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the agency’s campus, 127 Mill Street in Newton.
Open houses for interested participants are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 10 and Sept. 17, and at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 11. Registration is available at 973-940-3500 or projectselfsufficiency.org/higher-opportunities-for-women.
Participants in the HOW program receive 80 hours of computer skills training, including Microsoft Word and Excel, along with 40 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of an unpaid externship at a local employment site. Additional training covers workplace navigation, life skills, resume preparation, and interviewing strategies.
Since its inception, more than 1,000 women have completed the program.
“The job market is constantly evolving, and the Higher Opportunities for Women program gives participants the skills and confidence they need for success,” said Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director of Project Self-Sufficiency.
