Radio veteran Cyndy Drue to deliver Centenary University commencement address
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Philadelphia radio veteran Cyndy Drue will deliver the commencement address at Centenary University’s 151st graduation ceremony on May 16, university officials announced.
Drue, a Centenary alumna, has spent more than 50 years in broadcasting and will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of her contributions to the media industry and her alma mater.
“Cyndy Drue’s career embodies the creativity, curiosity, and courage that define a Centenary education,” President John R. Schol said. “As a trailblazer in broadcasting and a proud alumna who turned an early passion at WNTI into a lifetime of achievement, she is an inspiring example for Centenary’s Class of 2026 of how talent, perseverance, and lifelong learning can shape a successful career.”
Drue began her broadcasting career as a student at Centenary, hosting a program on the campus radio station, WNTI. She later became a prominent voice in Philadelphia radio, gaining recognition as the creator and host of “Street Beat” on WMMR-FM, a program that spotlighted emerging regional bands and helped launch the careers of numerous musicians.
Throughout her career, she has interviewed major artists including Rod Stewart, Carly Simon and Bono, as well as members of bands such as Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac and Journey.
In addition to her radio work, Drue has worked in television, film and voice-over performance. She created and hosted programs including “The Rock Review” and “The Rock ’n Roll Show” on KYW-TV.
As an actor and voice-over artist, she has appeared in more than 20 films, including “The Sixth Sense,” “Unbreakable,” “Rocky Balboa,” “National Treasure,” “Signs” and “The Lovely Bones,” as well as television shows such as “Law & Order: SVU” and “Do No Harm.” Her voice-over work spans nearly four decades and includes audiobooks, commercial projects and narration. In 2012, she contributed a voiced poem to a children’s album that won a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album.
Drue currently hosts a weekly program on Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK in Philadelphia and produces the ClassicRockArchive YouTube channel, where she interviews musicians and preserves historic performances. She is also co-author of “Fred Wagner: An American Painter (1860–1940).”
She earned an associate degree from Centenary in 1975, when the institution was known as Centenary College for Women, and later studied digital media at Moore College of Art and Design.
