Ramp from Route 46/94 to I-80 west to close for six weeks in Knowlton Township

KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The Route 46 westbound/Route 94 northbound ramp to Interstate 80 westbound is scheduled to close for approximately six weeks beginning Friday night, June 6, as part of an ongoing pavement preservation project in Warren County, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Starting at 10 p.m., the left lane on Route 46 westbound/Route 94 northbound and the ramp to I-80 westbound will be closed and detoured. The closures are necessary to allow for reconstruction of the ramp and associated parapets.

The following detour will be in effect during construction:

  • Motorists on Route 46 westbound/Route 94 northbound heading to I-80 westbound will continue straight on Route 94 northbound toward Blairstown.
  • Drivers will stay left to take the U-turn ramp to I-80 eastbound/Route 46.
  • Immediately afterward, they will stay right to exit onto I-80 westbound toward Delaware Water Gap/Stroudsburg, which becomes Simpson Road.
  • From Simpson Road, drivers will bear right onto the ramp to I-80 westbound near the TA Travel Center.

The work is part of a $14.5 million federally funded project to preserve and improve approximately 1.5 miles of Route 46 between I-80 and Walnut Road in Knowlton. In addition to ramp reconstruction, the project includes drainage upgrades, guiderail replacement, and installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components at the Route 46/Route 94 and I-80 interchanges.

The overall project is expected to be completed in fall 2025.

NJDOT advises motorists to check www.511nj.org for real-time traffic updates and encourages drivers to plan alternate routes. The schedule is subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
