Retired County Chief of Staff George Wagner to speak at Hunterdon County’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – George Wagner, retired Hunterdon County Chief of Staff and former Director of Public Safety, will serve as the Guest Speaker for Hunterdon County’s 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony scheduled for 8:30 am on Wednesday, Sept. 11 on the steps of the County Justice Center located at the corner of Capner Street and Park Avenue in Flemington.

Sheriff Frederick Brown stated, “Mr. Wagner was an instrumental part of various achievements during his 40-year career with Hunterdon County. He has always been vocal about the importance of commemorating the events of September 11th, often emphasizing the significance of remembering the sacrifices made by first responders and the impact on the community.”

George Wagner joined Hunterdon County in 1980 as a corrections officer and ascended the ranks in the county’s Department of Corrections, serving as warden and leading the Department of Public Safety. Wagner was named Chief of Staff in 2013 and led the county’s Administrative Services Department.

Sheriff Brown, who re-initiated the 9-11 Remembrance event in 2017 and has led the ceremonies in Hunterdon County every year since, shared, “This important commemoration which remembers all those lost on September 11, 2001, particularly the sixteen Hunterdon County residents who perished that day, is too significant not to be continued. As a community, it’s crucial that we unite to honor this solemn day, ensuring that no one is ever forgotten.”

Many members of the law enforcement and first responder communities will join county officials at the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
