Retired Hunterdon County Chief of Staff and Public Safety Director will serve as 9/11 guest speaker at remembrance event
FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Retired Hunterdon County Chief of Staff and Public Safety Director George Wagner will serve as the Guest Speaker for Hunterdon County’s 9-11 Remembrance event, on the steps of the County Justice Center, on Park Avenue, in Flemington, said Sheriff Fred W. Brown.
The program, which includes the participation of law enforcement and volunteer County Fire and Rescue units, is scheduled to begin on Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
Sheriff Brown, who re-introduced the Hunterdon 9-11 Remembrance event in 2017 said, “George Wagner was instrumental in helping me organize the 9-11 Remembrance event when we re-established it in 2017. And, until his retirement after over 40 years of faithful service to the County, he continued to assist in ensuring that each year we all remember the terrible events of September 11th, 2001. George is an individual whose dedication and service to Hunterdon County knows few equals. I am honored he will serve as the Guest Speaker, as we continue to ensure that in Hunterdon County we do not forget, and no one is forgotten.”
George Wagner began his service as a County Corrections Officer in 1980, rising in rank to become the Warden of the Hunterdon County Jail, a post he had at the time of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
Wagner then served as the County’s Director of Public Safety for fifteen years, overseeing the Countywide 9-1-1 Dispatch Center and the response to numerous natural disasters and critical incidents impacting the County during that period. He served in the additional role of Chief of Staff for the Freeholder Board, prior to his retirement in 2021.
