Roxbury police host Thanksgiving food drive to support local families in need
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The Roxbury Township Police Department is partnering with Roxbury Social Services to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive throughout November, aiming to help families and seniors in need as local food pantry supplies run low.
Residents are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items at the police department, located at 1715 U.S. Highway 46 in Ledgewood, to help restock the food pantry, which officials say is “extremely low on supplies and in desperate need of donations.” At the end of the month, all contributions will be delivered to Roxbury Social Services for distribution to the community.
“The food pantry exists solely on the generous donations from individuals and local businesses,” police said. “Many individuals and families in our township rely on social services and our food pantry. Any donations are welcome.”
Items most needed include coffee, tea, juice, mayonnaise, kid’s snacks, canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, white rice, cereal, evaporated milk, oil, tissues, shampoo, dish soap, laundry detergent, deodorant, razors, and other household essentials. Donors are asked to check expiration dates before contributing.
As part of the drive, Roxbury police are also encouraging children to participate. Any child who brings at least two items to the police department will become a “Fighting Hunger Hero.” Participants will have their photo taken with an officer for the department’s Facebook page and may be selected for a ride-along and tour of the police department.
