Sharon Drylie sworn in as first female mayor of Frelinghuysen Township
FRELINGHUYSEN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – In a historic moment for Frelinghuysen Township, Sharon Drylie was sworn in as the township’s first female mayor on January 3. Her appointment marks a significant milestone for the community, as she assumed the role after being nominated by the township committee earlier that day.
Drylie, a longtime resident of Frelinghuysen, has lived in the township for 25 years with her husband, raising four children in the community they proudly call home. Her deep-rooted connection to the area is matched by her extensive experience in local government. Throughout her career, Drylie has served in various positions, including Deputy Clerk, Land Use Board Secretary, Planning Board Secretary, Zoning Board member, and Technical Assistant to the Construction Official in both Frelinghuysen Township and Hackettstown.
Drylie told RNJ that her priorities for the upcoming term include transparency in government operations, ensuring that residents are well-informed and their concerns are heard. She also emphasized fiscal responsibility, acknowledging the work of the current committee while stressing the need for long-term planning for the township’s finances.
She further explained that enhancing communication with residents through various channels, including social media, community bulletin boards, and a notification system, is a key focus to ensure everyone has access to the information they need and that public opinions are heard.
Among the top challenges Drylie plans to address are improving local infrastructure, managing taxes, and preserving the rural character of Frelinghuysen. She plans to work closely with the finance committee to ensure the wise spending of taxpayer dollars and explore shared service agreements with neighboring municipalities to reduce costs. Protecting Frelinghuysen’s farmland and natural resources is also a top priority for Drylie, who views the township’s rural character as one of its most valuable assets.
