Sherrill ends state of emergency after second winter storm

TRENTON, N.J. — Gov. Mikie Sherrill on Wednesday lifted the state of emergency that had been declared across all 21 counties in response to the second major winter storm to impact New Jersey.

The emergency declaration, issued under Executive Order No. 14, took effect at noon Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026. Sherrill formally ended the order by signing Executive Order No. 15, terminating the state of emergency effective 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026.

“New Jersey once again showed our readiness and resilience during this second major winter storm,” said Governor Sherrill. “I’m grateful to the state and local workers who swiftly cleared roads, restored power, and supported residents. Thank you to the people of New Jersey who stayed off the roads—your cooperation ensured we safely and efficiently got through this storm.”

State officials said the emergency declaration allowed New Jersey to coordinate resources and response efforts statewide during the storm.
