Sidewalk, other pedestrian safety improvements on Upper Belvidere Road in Lopatcong Township to begin June 24
LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Lopatcong Township will be commencing work on the construction of sidewalks and other pedestrian safety improvements on the north side of Upper Belvidere Road (County Route 646) between North First Street and Willdew Avenue on or about Monday, June 24.
The new sidewalks will connect to sidewalks previously constructed by the township at the entrance to the Phillipsburg High School.
The new sidewalks will enhance public safety by providing a continuous sidewalk network between North First Street and Willdew Avenue, which will connect various residential neighborhoods and provide safe pedestrian access to the high school and Lopatcong Park.
“Providing a safe pedestrian path network on this segment of Upper Belvidere Road (CR 646) is important given the high traffic volumes on CR 646,” town officials said.
The township awarded a contract to Top Line Construction Corporation in the amount of $ 380,332.40 for the work. Top Line Construction Corporation is an experienced local contractor who has successfully performed work on other capital improvement projects for the Township.
Funding for construction is being provided through funding provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation under the Transportation Alternatives Program ( TAP). The Township is the recipient of a grant in the amount of $439,338.50 to fund the work.
“The contractor needs to complete work on the project on or before October 17, 2024. Based upon discussions with the contractor, the work is anticipated to be completed well before October 17th,” town officials said.
There will be some shoulder closures on Upper Belvidere Road, as well as other minor traffic impacts during the course of the work. The plan set for the project contains a maintenance and protection of traffic plan to maintain safety and minimize inconvenience to the public and the residents during the course of the work. The Lopatcong Township Police Department will be monitoring the work to ensure a safe work site.
