Single ticket sold in New Jersey wins $847 million Powerball jackpot, ninth-largest in history
NEW JERSEY — A single Powerball ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing, winning an estimated $847 million jackpot, the ninth-largest prize in Powerball history.
The winning ticket matched all five white balls and the red Powerball in the Nov. 4 drawing. The winning numbers were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56, with a Powerball of 21. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
The winner can choose between receiving the $847 million jackpot as an annuity or taking a one-time lump-sum payment of $363.1 million. Both amounts are before taxes. Under the annuity option, the winner would receive 30 increasing payments over 29 years.
The location where the winning ticket was purchased was not immediately announced.
Wednesday’s jackpot ranks as the ninth-largest in Powerball history and comes less than three months after a ticket sold in Illinois won a $1.04 billion jackpot on Aug. 12. The two consecutive jackpot wins now rank as the eighth- and ninth-largest prizes in the game’s history.
“Back-to-back jackpot runs resulting in prizes of this magnitude are a testament to the excitement Powerball generates,” said Stephen Durrell, Chair of the Powerball Product Group and Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery. “We’re thrilled to celebrate another life-changing win and congratulate the lucky ticket holder.”
Although only one ticket matched all six numbers to claim the jackpot, more than 1 million tickets won cash prizes in Wednesday’s drawing by matching one or more winning numbers. Among those winners were 25 tickets that matched four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000 each, while another four tickets matched the same combination and included the Power Play option, increasing their prizes to $100,000 each.
In California, prize payouts are determined by ticket sales and the number of winners rather than the fixed prize amounts used in other participating jurisdictions.
The New Jersey jackpot is the seventh Powerball jackpot-winning drawing of 2026. Earlier winning drawings included a $209.3 million prize in North Carolina on Jan. 21, a $250.8 million prize in Arkansas on March 2, and a $230.8 million prize in Delaware on April 6.
Additional jackpot wins occurred April 29, when tickets in Indiana and Kansas shared $143 million, and May 2, when tickets in Florida and Texas shared $20 million. The $1.04 billion Illinois jackpot followed on Aug. 12.
The largest Powerball jackpot in history remains the $2.04 billion prize won in California on Nov. 7, 2022. Other major jackpots include the $1.817 billion prize won in Arkansas on Dec. 24, 2025, and the $1.787 billion jackpot shared by winners in Missouri and Texas on Sept. 6, 2025. Wednesday’s $847 million jackpot also surpasses the $842.4 million prize won in Michigan on Jan. 1, 2024, which now ranks as the 10th-largest in Powerball history.
Following the New Jersey jackpot win, the estimated Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Power Play 10X multiplier will be available for Saturday’s drawing because the advertised jackpot is below $150 million.
Lottery officials are encouraging players to check their tickets carefully to determine whether they won a prize in Wednesday’s drawing.
