Six St. Luke’s hospitals earn Leapfrog Top Hospital safety designation
Six hospitals operated by St. Luke’s University Health Network have been named among the nation’s top hospitals for safety by the Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization that evaluates hospital performance.
Leapfrog announced its 2025 Top Hospital designations this week, recognizing 156 hospitals nationwide out of more than 2,100 evaluated. Of the 12 hospitals in Pennsylvania to earn the designation, five are St. Luke’s facilities. St. Luke’s Warren Campus was one of only seven hospitals in New Jersey to receive the honor.
The St. Luke’s hospitals recognized are:
- St. Luke’s Hospital – Allentown Campus, Teaching Top Hospital
- St. Luke’s Hospital – Easton Campus, Teaching Top Hospital
- St. Luke’s Monroe Campus, Rural Top Hospital
- St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Campus, Teaching Top Hospital
- St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem Campus, Teaching Top Hospital
- St. Luke’s Warren Campus, Teaching Top Hospital
Leapfrog’s Top Hospital awards recognize high performance in patient safety and quality of care across teaching, general, rural and children’s hospital categories. The rankings are based on objective measures, including infection rates, prevention of medication errors and overall patient safety systems.
“These prestigious recognitions are a credit to St. Luke’s outstanding leadership, providers, nurses and other hospital staff and volunteers,” said Donna Sabol, St. Luke’s chief quality officer. “Working together as a team, we have designed and implemented a standardized approach to quality and safety that ensures our entire region enjoys local access to St. Luke’s world-class health care.”
Leapfrog officials said the 2025 awards include 73 teaching hospitals, 52 general hospitals, 16 rural hospitals and 15 children’s hospitals nationwide.
“This year marks Leapfrog’s 25th anniversary – and the 25th year of the Leapfrog Hospital Survey – making it especially meaningful to recognize our 2025 Top Hospitals and Top ASCs,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group. “These honorees are a testament to the extraordinary dedication of these facilities’ entire teams, boards, clinicians, administrators, staff and community volunteers. You don’t achieve results like this without everyone putting their heart into patient care.”
The rankings are based on data collected through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which evaluates hospitals on national standards for safety, quality, efficiency and systems designed to prevent errors. Leapfrog also released its fall 2025 Hospital Safety Grades last month, awarding high marks to all St. Luke’s hospitals eligible for review.
