FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — Authorities are investigating a residential fire Saturday afternoon in Franklin Township that left one person injured, officials said.
Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks said the fire occurred April 18 at a home on the 100 block of Irvington Avenue.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 12:10 p.m., where officers encountered heavy smoke conditions upon arrival.
Firefighters from multiple agencies — including East Franklin, Community, Somerset Fire and Rescue, New Brunswick, and North Brunswick fire companies — responded and extinguished the fire.
One resident was injured while evacuating dogs from the home and was transported to a local hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital EMS. The Milltown Rescue Squad also assisted at the scene.
“Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of our police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, the fire was extinguished and further injuries were prevented,” said Director Fredericks. “We also commend the resident’s actions in ensuring the safety of their pets.”
