Sussex County Community College honors John M. Kuntz with new Athletic Hall of Fame Wall

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County)Sussex County Community College (SCCC) has unveiled the John M. Kuntz Athletic Hall of Fame Wall, a new tribute to the retired longtime athletic director’s profound impact on the College’s athletic program.

The wall celebrates Kuntz’s over thirty years of service, starting in 1987 as men’s basketball coach, before later becoming the full-time athletic director.

Under Kuntz’s leadership, SCCC athletics flourished, growing from a single team into a robust department with twelve competitive teams. In addition to his work in athletics, Kuntz made significant contributions to student activities, the Student Government Association, and campus clubs, ensuring a well-rounded student experience.

Reflecting on his career, Kuntz recalls three milestones: the establishment of SCCC’s athletic program, the expansion to twelve teams, and the enhancement of athletic facilities. “It’s been a truly remarkable journey,” Kuntz said. “Seeing the College transform has been inspiring, and I’ve been fortunate to work alongside many dedicated individuals.”

In 2019, Kuntz was honored as the Ron Case Athletic Director of the Year for New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Interim President Dr. Cory Homer praised Kuntz’s legacy, stating, “His dedication, vision, and commitment have shaped the foundation of our athletics program. The Hall of Fame Wall is a lasting tribute to his contributions.”

The John M. Kuntz Athletic Hall of Fame Wall, located in the Academic and Athletic Building, serves as a permanent reminder of Kuntz’s dedication to SCCC athletics and the student-athletes he mentored.
