Sussex County Community College to hold Agriculture Field Day on Aug. 14

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – Sussex County Community College (SCCC) invites the community to join them for an exciting Agriculture Field Day at the SAgE at Muckshaw, located at 290 Route 206 South, in Newton.

The event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 14, with sessions running from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, a rain date has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 15.

Participants will have the opportunity to dig into the world of agriculture, exploring the courses offered by Sussex County Community College, the agricultural methods employed at the student farm, and ongoing experiments.

Erin Shroll, Program Supervisor, will deliver insights into planting a fall garden, sharing valuable techniques to extend growing seasons and maximize yields of fruits and vegetables.

Farm tours are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and attendees will gain firsthand experiences and practical knowledge about sustainable farming practices and innovative agricultural methods.

SCCC is gearing up to offer a range of courses this fall semester, including Introduction to Agriculture, Integrated Pest Management, and Introduction to Soil Science. These courses are designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge in the field of agricultural sciences.
