Sussex County man sentenced to probation for possession of fentanyl and 4-ANPP

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man sentenced to probation for possession of fentanyl and 4-ANPP, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Joseph Scabet, 39, of Branchville Borough was sentenced on March 24 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.

Scabet was sentenced to three years probation and in addition to the standard conditions of probation, he must also complete IP/OP Substance Abuse Program, TASC evaluation, follow all recommendations, drive only to and from treatment and pay $1,207.00 in fines and fees, as well as a $5.00 a month supervision fee, Taggart said.

Scabet was also sentenced on a careless driving motor vehicle charge and he must pay $90.00 in fines and fees for that conviction, Taggart said.

Scabet pled guilty on Dec. 8, 2022 to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and careless driving. In pleading guilty, he admitted to operating his vehicle carelessly causing a motor vehicle accident while possessing Fentanyl and 4-ANPP, Taggart said.

Scabet was represented by Thomas F. Militano, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
