Sussex County woman charged with 7 counts of shoplifting

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County woman has been charged with 7 counts of shoplifting from the Byram ShopRite, according to police.

On Aug. 19, police responded to ShopRite for a report of a shoplifting with the suspect still at the scene, police said.

When officers arrived, they were informed that a manager from ShopRite allegedly caught Valerie A. McFarland, 62, of Stanhope Borough shoplifting, police said.

Officers were also informed that McFarland previously shoplifted numerous times in the past but that she had not been identified until now, police said.

McFarland was arrested and charged with seven counts of shoplifting. She was then released pending a court appearance, police said.
