Target unveils redesigned shopping cart focused on comfort, convenience and sustainability
Target is rolling out a redesigned shopping cart aimed at improving the in-store experience for customers while incorporating more sustainable and durable features, the company announced.
The retailer said the new “Series 3 APC” shopping cart was developed with guest feedback in mind and reflects the company’s broader focus on design, convenience and functionality.
Target officials said the redesign process began in 2020, with store design teams working directly with shoppers — particularly busy families — to identify ways to make shopping trips easier and more comfortable.

“No other cart on the market meets all these aspirations,” said Sarah Deuth, Target’s vice president of store design. “We’re leading with design and elevating the guest experience down to the last detail.”
According to Target, the updated carts feature smoother maneuverability, ergonomic handles, a deeper and more secure child seat, expanded basket space for bulk items and larger cupholders designed to hold beverages, snacks and children’s cups.
The company said the redesigned carts are intended to create a shopping experience that feels “easy, inspiring and friendly.”
Target also emphasized sustainability in the new design. The Series 3 APC carts are made with fully recyclable materials and feature a modular design that allows individual components to be replaced rather than replacing the entire cart.
The retailer said the approach is intended to reduce waste while extending the lifespan of the carts.
“Our carts are part of our legacy, one of the most recognizable touchpoints of our brand,” the company said in a statement announcing the redesign.
Target said the new carts are already available at some locations and will continue to roll out to select stores over time as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the in-store shopping experience.
