Three arrested after burglary, police chase and foot pursuit in Morris County
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Three men were arrested following a reported commercial burglary, a police pursuit and a foot chase early Sunday in the Whippany section of Hanover Township, authorities said.
Hanover Township police said officers were notified at about 11:35 p.m. Sunday of an activated burglar alarm at a business along Route 10 East. When officers arrived, they observed a white utility van leaving the property at a high rate of speed.
Police followed the vehicle along Route 10 East and observed multiple motor vehicle violations related to the vehicle’s registration. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated, police said.
The vehicle continued through Route 10 and nearby neighborhoods in the area of Troy Hills Road before stopping on a residential street. Three occupants then fled the vehicle on foot in multiple directions, police said.
Officers located one suspect in the area of David Drive and took him into custody. With two additional suspects still outstanding, police requested mutual aid from neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Assistance was provided by the East Hanover, Parsippany, Morris Township and Morristown police departments, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the business was confirmed to have been burglarized, the vehicle allegedly used in the crime was secured, and the remaining suspects were apprehended.
Authorities said items believed to be proceeds from the burglary were recovered. The following individuals were arrested: Christopher Sollena of Staten Island, New York; Luis Morales of Brooklyn, New York; and Joseph Rinaldi of Staten Island, New York.
Police said the men were charged with multiple offenses, including third-degree burglary and second-degree theft, and were lodged at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending pretrial detention hearings.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Hanover Township Police Department at 973-428-2512.
