Three men charged in occupied home burglary in Somerset County

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — Three Trenton men have been arrested and charged in connection with a residential burglary of an occupied home in Montgomery Township late last year, Somerset County law enforcement officials announced.

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo and Montgomery Township Police Chief Silvio Bet said Devoris Daniels, 20; Mekai Wright, 24; and Lloyd Beard-Julius, 30, were charged following an investigation into a Dec. 16, 2025 burglary on Remy Court.

According to McDonald, Montgomery Township police were dispatched at about 10:53 p.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting a burglary in progress at an occupied residence. The caller reported hearing suspicious noises and seeing broken glass from a basement window.

Officers responding to the scene located a man later identified as Daniels in the driveway of the home, authorities said. Daniels allegedly refused to comply with officers’ commands and fled on foot into the backyard. Officers pursuing him observed that he reentered the residence through the broken basement window and apprehended him inside the home, where he was found hiding in a closet. A Somerset County sheriff’s officer also responded to assist in searching for additional suspects with the use of a canine, officials said.

The investigation continued the following morning, when detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Task Force and the Montgomery Township Police Department joined the case. Investigators determined that two additional suspects were involved and that a 2022 Nissan Altima had been used during the burglary.

Detectives later located the vehicle in Trenton and observed Wright enter it during surveillance, according to authorities. After initiating a motor vehicle stop, Wright allegedly fled on foot but was arrested following a brief pursuit.

Further investigation identified Beard-Julius as the third suspect, officials said. A warrant for his arrest was entered into the National Crime Information Center database. Beard-Julius was arrested Jan. 28, 2026, by the Mount Laurel Police Department in Burlington County on unrelated charges and was subsequently served with the Somerset County warrant.

Authorities said Daniels was charged with second-degree burglary of an occupied structure and fourth-degree resisting arrest/eluding. Wright was charged with second-degree burglary of an occupied structure, as well as disorderly persons offenses of criminal mischief and obstruction. Beard-Julius was charged with second-degree burglary of an occupied structure and a disorderly persons offense of criminal mischief.

Daniels and Wright were remanded to the Somerset County Jail pending Superior Court detention hearings. Beard-Julius was remanded to the Burlington County Jail while awaiting court proceedings in Somerset County.

McDonald commended the Montgomery Township Police Department, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Task Force for their coordinated efforts, saying the timely sharing of information led to the suspects’ identification and arrests.
