FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – Two 14-year-old juveniles have been charged with stealing a vehicle in Sussex County and crashing it in Frelinghuysen Township, according to police.

A Franklin Borough resident reported that their vehicle was stolen from their residence during the overnight hours of March 16. By the time the police were notified, the vehicle had already been recovered. It was found unoccupied in the early morning hours of March 17 after an apparent motor vehicle accident in Frelinghuysen Township, which was investigated by the New Jersey State Police, authorities said.

Through the investigation, the two juveniles—residents of Franklin Borough and Newton—were arrested and charged on March 17 with third-degree motor vehicle theft. Due to their age, their identities are being withheld, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed at a later date. Both juveniles were issued complaint summonses and released to their parents’ custody, pending their appearance in Sussex County Superior Court, in accordance with Juvenile Justice Reform and the NJ Bail Reform Act, police said.
