Two trapped in Route 31 crash in Warren County; minor injuries reported

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Two women sustained minor injuries Tuesday morning after their vehicle crossed over the center lines into the southbound lanes, struck a guardrail and overturned along Route 31 in Washington Township, authorities said.

Washington Township police responded at approximately 11:47 a.m. Feb. 10 to the area of 234 State Route 31 North for a report of an overturned vehicle.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2009 Saturn was traveling northbound on Route 31 near Oakwood Lanes when it crossed over the center lines into the southbound lanes and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then traveled down an embankment and overturned.

The driver, an 81-year-old woman from Washington Borough, and her passenger, an 83-year-old woman, also from Washington Borough, were trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency responders extricated the driver and transported her by ambulance to a local hospital. The passenger was also removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. Both women sustained minor injuries, police said.

Washington Township officers were assisted at the scene by the Washington Emergency Squad, the Independence Emergency Squad, the Washington Township Fire Department, the Warren County Communications Center and Washington Collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
