UPDATE: E-bike rider fatally struck by box truck on Route 46 in Morris County ID’d

ROCKAWAY BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) — Authorities have identified the e-bike rider who was fatally struck by a box truck on Route 46 in Rockaway Borough Wednesday afternoon as a 67-year-old Bergen County man, according to Meghan Knab, Public Information Officer for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 9. Police responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of 202 Route 46, where a box truck had struck Mark S. Barbosa of Elmwood Park Borough, who was operating an electric bicycle, Knab said.

Barbosa was transported to Morristown Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck was not injured and remained at the scene, Knab said.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Rockaway Borough Police Department are actively investigating the incident.

No further information has been released.
