UPDATE: Man’s body recovered after going missing in Lake Hopatcong
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – The body of a man who went missing in Lake Hopatcong in Roxbury Township over the weekend has been found, according to Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Public Information Officer Meghan Knab.
On Saturday, June 22, at around 7:30 p.m., William Ryan, 79, of Landing was reported to have gone into Lake Hopatcong, and not return, Knab said.
A search was launched by the Roxbury Township Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office ESU, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, and New Jersey State Police Marine Unit, Knab said.
The effort was suspended overnight and resumed Sunday morning. Water conditions and visibility hindered recovery efforts, and the search was suspended Sunday night, and resumed Monday, Knab said.
Ryan was found dead alone and recovered in the southern tip of the lake on Monday morning, Knab said.
Search efforts included the Morris County Sheriff’s Office ESU deployment of a submersible, New Jersey State Police divers, sonar, and aviation, Knab said.
“At this time, the circumstances of this incident are not considered suspicious,” Knab said.
