UPDATE: Pedestrian struck, killed in Warren County ID’d

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Authorities identified a man who was struck and killed in a crash in Hackettstown Wednesday morning as a 64-year-old resident of Independence Township.

Roynaldo Tabeta was struck at around 10:52 a.m. in front of the CVS Pharmacy (85 Main Street), officials said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a 2018 GMC Canyon, driven by as Gurus Rustamov, 61, of Flanders, was traveling westbound on Route 46 when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck Tabeta who was walking on the sidewalk, authorities said.

Tabeta was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:53 a.m., officials said.

Rustamov was also transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation, officials said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Route 46 (Main Street) was closed between West Stiger Street and Valentine Street for the investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue Squad, Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Independence Township First Aid Squad, Saint Clare’s Paramedics, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
