Volunteers remove 350 bags of trash, boat, and gravestone during Delaware River Cleanup

More than 240 volunteers joined forces along the Delaware River on Saturday, Sept. 20, for the 8th Annual Delaware River Cleanup, organized by the Delaware River Greenway Partnership, collecting an impressive 350 bags of trash and several surprising finds.

“Over 240 amazing volunteers came together and collected a whopping 350 bags of trash along the Delaware River. Your dedication to keeping our environment clean is truly inspiring!” the Delaware River Greenway Partnership said in a statement.

Among the items pulled from the river were the usual debris — such as tires and construction materials — along with some unexpected discoveries. Volunteers found a jet ski, an iPhone, a gravestone, a boat, multiple pieces of furniture including couches and mattresses, a toilet bowl, and even a marble shelf.

“From the everyday to the extraordinary, you all tackled it with enthusiasm and teamwork,” the organization said. “Together, we’re making a real difference.”

The Delaware River Greenway Partnership thanked all participants for donating their time and energy to help create a cleaner, healthier river for the region.
