Warren County recognizes Disability Employment Awareness Month with proclamation

WARREN COUNTY, N.J. — The Warren County Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation Wednesday recognizing October as Disability Employment Awareness Month, highlighting the contributions of individuals with disabilities and the importance of providing equal employment opportunities.

The proclamation was presented during Wednesday’s county commissioners meeting to Cynthia Wildermuth, CEO of Abilities of Northwest Jersey Inc., an organization that provides services to individuals with disabilities, including prevocational and vocational training, job placement and employment support.

According to the county, the proclamation recognizes the work of the Warren County Department of Human Services, Division of Aging and Disability Services and its Advisory Council on Disabilities in promoting awareness, accessibility and opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The proclamation states that the county “strives to create awareness and opportunities which provide residents with disabilities and their caregivers the option and support services needed to exercise their full rights as citizens in every component of our society and our County.”

“I love doing this every year on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that we serve, not just in Warren County but in surrounding counties,” Wildermuth said as she accepted the proclamation.

“It’s just an amazing experience to see these individuals thrive in the community and at their places of employment,” Wildermuth said.

Wildermuth also thanked the county and community for their continued support and praised businesses that provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla said providing employment opportunities is important and expressed appreciation for the businesses willing to hire individuals with disabilities.

Commissioner James R. Kern III emphasized that the proclamation is about ensuring equal access and giving everyone in Warren County the opportunity to pursue a career.

Commissioner Jason J. Sarnoski thanked the volunteers and organizations that support programs and services for people with disabilities.

Disability Employment Awareness Month is observed each October to recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and promote inclusive employment opportunities.
