Warren County woman charged after refusing to comply during Clinton Township traffic stop

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Warren County woman was arrested on obstruction charges after allegedly refusing to comply with police during a traffic stop on Route 31, Clinton Township Police Chief Thomas A. DeRosa announced.

On May 11, an officer on routine patrol observed equipment violations on a red Chevrolet stopped at a traffic light on Route 31 South near Molasses Hill Road. The vehicle was pulled over in the parking lot of a gas station.

The driver, identified as Destany M. Alvarez, 25, of Washignton immediately exited her vehicle and questioned the reason for the stop. She was ordered to return to her vehicle and complied, according to police.

When the officer approached to request her credentials, Alvarez lowered her window only slightly and repeatedly asked why she had been stopped, police said. She refused to provide her documents and ignored multiple commands to exit the vehicle. She was eventually removed from the car and placed under arrest.

Alvarez was charged with obstruction of justice and hindering apprehension. She also received motor vehicle summonses for maintenance of lamps, failure to signal, tinted windows, and driving without a license.

After being processed, Alvarez was released pending a court date.
