Warren County woman sentenced for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, bail jumping, throwing bodily fluids

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Warren County woman was sentenced for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, bail jumping NS throwing bodily fluid, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.

Cecilia Cuevas, 31, of Phillipsburg was sentenced on May 3 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Murray said.

Cuevas was sentenced to 365 days New Jersey State Prison concurrent on all charges and will be required to pay all fines and fees, Murray said.

Cuevas pled guilty on March 8 to fourth-degree bail jumping, fourth-degree throwing bodily fluids, and fourth-degree aggravated assault on law enforcement officer, Murray said.

In pleading guilty, Cuevas admitted to knowingly spitting on a law enforcement officer and attempting to cause bodily injury to a law enforcement officer, specifically by kicking and flailing her feet while being handcuffed, Murray said.

Cuevas also admitted to failing to appear for court on multiple occasions, Murray said.

At sentencing, Cuevas was represented by Thomas F. Militano, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
