Woman, 60, charged with DWI, failing to yield to police in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Hackettstown woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop Monday evening in Mount Olive Township, authorities said.

Police said the incident occurred April 20 at about 7:42 p.m., when an officer on patrol observed a white Hyundai traveling westbound on Route 46 fail to maintain its lane. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it did not pull over until it traveled from Route 46 onto Wolfe Road and then onto Vasa Drive.

The driver, identified as Karen L. Ausland, 60, of Hackettstown, showed signs of impairment during the stop, including the odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said.

After being asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety testing, she was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.

Ausland was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to maintain lane and failure to exhibit documents.

She was released to a sober driver pending a court appearance, authorities said.
