Woman charged with DWI after hit-and-run crash in Morris County, police say

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Budd Lake woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a reported hit-and-run motor vehicle crash Sunday, according to police.

Authorities said officers were dispatched Dec. 21 to Goldmine Road after receiving a report of a crash in which one vehicle, a black Nissan, allegedly left the scene. Police said the driver of the struck vehicle followed the Nissan to the area of St. James Road in Budd Lake and reported its location.

Officers responded to St. James Road, where they located the black Nissan and conducted a motor vehicle stop, police said. The driver was identified as Ashley M. Vega, 34, of Budd Lake.

During the investigation, officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed signs of impairment, police said. Vega was asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety testing and was subsequently taken into custody.

Vega was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, authorities said.

She was released to a sober driver pending a future court appearance.
