Woman charged with murder in fatal stabbing in Hunterdon County

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A woman was arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man on Wednesday in Raritan Township, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson.

Domonique Preston, 45, Raritan Township was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, at around 1:40 a.m., police responded to a 9-1-1 call that reported a stabbing at a residence in the 100 block of Manchester Road in Raritan Township, Robeson said.

Officers subsequently located a deceased 66-year-old man, later identified as Steven Spivey, who exhibited an apparent stab wound. Officers further encountered Preston, who resides in the home, and arrested her at the scene, Robeson said.

Preston is being held at the Warren County Correctional Center pending her first court appearance which occurred on Feb. 21. The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion to detain Preston pre-trial, Robeson said.

A first-degree murder charge may result in criminal penalties including, but not limited to, a mandatory state prison term between 30 years and life imprisonment. The Third-degree charges may result in criminal penalties including, but not limited to, a term of imprisonment between three and five years and a fine not to exceed $15,000.00. The Fourth-degree charges may result in criminal penalties including, but not limited to, a term of imprisonment up to eighteen months and a fine not to exceed $10,000.00.

Prosecutor Robeson and Raritan Township Police Chief Alfred Payne acknowledged members of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Raritan Township Police Department for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation and for the swift apprehension of Preston.
