1 seriously injured in early Easter morning crash on I-78 in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Pennsylvania man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash that happened on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County on Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Trooper Troy McNair.

The crash happened at around 3:52 a.m. on Interstate 78 westbound at milepost 16 in Clinton Township, McNair said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Buick passenger vehicle, driven by Derek Thomas, 48, of Coplay Borough, was traveling westbound on I-78 when he lost directional control, ran off the roadway to the right, and subsequently struck the guardrail, McNair said.

As a result of the accident, Thomas suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, McNair said.

The accident remains under investigation and no additional information was available, McNair said.
